The appearance of your buttock is highly dependent on your fat distribution and genetics. Because many people desire a rounder, perkier bottom half, buttock augmentation has become one of the fastest growing areas in plastic surgery. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 2014 Statistics on Cosmetic Surgery, “buttock augmentation procedures increased in number by 86% in 2014.” So if a larger or better-shaped bottom half is currently trending, what are your options for enhancement?
Two Great Options For Buttock Enhancement:
Fat transfer to the buttocks and buttock implantation are two very good options for patients who desire larger buttocks. For patients who are heavier or have enough fat, Dr. Lane Smith usually recommends fat transfer to the buttocks. In addition to enlarging the buttocks, the overall contour changes with fat transfer. For patients who are very thin and will not, or cannot gain more fat, buttock implantation offers a viable option with a high success rate.
- Fat Transfer
The advantage of fat transfer is that the buttock is enlarged and the area from which the fat was harvested is improved. The biggest disadvantage is that fat transfer is more variable than with implants, so the end result might not be as large or round as the patient desired. Usually, an additional fat transfer can remedy this.
- Buttock Implants
Like breast implants, buttock implants are made from silicone, but come in different shapes like round or oval to suit the patient’s desires. The advantage of buttock implants is that they will always produce a more round, shapely and firm buttock. Additionally, silicone buttock implants are FDA approved to be used in patients who are very thin. On the other hand, buttock implants have the same disadvantage as breast implants-- the implants will not last forever. Someday the implants might require an additional surgery to remove, replace, or lift them.
