Cellulite is a problem countless women deal with, no matter how slender or in-shape they might be. These lumps and bumps can make a person feel self-conscious, especially when summer rolls around and they are confronted with pool parties and the prospect of having to wear a bathing suit and bear their legs. Instead of reaching for a cover-up, why not try to address the problem with an effective solution that will help you love your body even more? Cellfina is an FDA-approved treatment for cellulite that works by releasing the fibrous bands under the skin, which are known as septae. Septae can pull down the skin, which ultimately causes cellulite to develop.
While there have been other devices that have claimed to target and rid the body of cellulite through laser or radio-frequency energy, they tend to only produce mild or moderate benefits that temporarily alter the appearance of cellulite. Cellfina, however, addresses the underlying structure of cellulite by targeting the architecture of the body’s skin and fat that is associated with dimpling. Given that it addresses the underlying cause of a person’s lumps and bumps, Cellfina is much more effective in reducing the appearance of cellulite.
About the Procedure
Cellfina is a minimally invasive procedure that is most ideal for women who are within 10 pounds of their normal body weight. Those who are significantly overweight have extra fat beneath the skin, which creates more weight to the skin, rendering the procedure less effective and unnoticeable. The procedure, which takes about an hour, allows a doctor to treat anywhere from 20 to 30 dimples. Once the dimples are marked, a device is used to inject anesthetic liquid under the skin to numb the treated area. The same device is then used to attach a suction cup to the dimpled skin, which is used to stabilize it before a needle is inserted into the skin to cut the fibrous bands of connective tissue.
Side effects of Cellfina include bruising, swelling, soreness, and red dots in the area where the suction cups and needle were used. Assuming a patient does not gain a significant amount of weight, the effects of Cellfina can last for years. Following the procedure, it is advisable for patients to wear Spanx or another type of compression garment for a week.
Patients should also allow about two to three months to pass before seeing the full effects of this procedure. However, some patients have noticed results as soon as a week after their treatment with Cellfina if they do not experience much bruising or swelling.
