The relationship a woman has with her vagina can impact several areas of her life, from her self-esteem to her ability to enjoy sexual intercourse. If you have had multiple vaginal childbirths, you might have experienced a weakening of your vaginal muscles, which can potentially cause problems for you and your partner. Additionally, if you have a large or oversized labia, this could cause discomfort while wearing certain clothes or even during intercourse.
To address these respective conditions, there are two types of vaginal surgery – vaginoplasty and labiaplasty. To learn more about the differences in these two procedures, continue reading:
Labiaplasty
This procedure is designed to improve the outer appearance of the female genitalia by reducing the size of the labia minora and giving it more definition. Labiaplasty can also redefine the urethral opening. There are two methods to perform a labiaplasty. First, it can be done by reducing the excess tissue along the edges of the labia by trimming the inner folds. It can also be done by cutting out a “V” shaped wedge of tissue from beneath the labia, then sewing the edges back together.
Vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty is designed to tighten and rejuvenate the vagina. This is achieved by joining the stretched muscles of the vagina together at the back of it, shortening it, and removing excess vaginal lining. As a result, the patient will enjoy a decrease in size of the vaginal cavity, which will create more friction during sexual intercourse.
A vaginoplasty can be performed while a patient is also undergoing a labiaplasty procedure since the former does not involve the labia, but rather the vagina itself. If you are interested in both tightening your vagina and improving the appearance of your labia, having both of these procedures done together can fulfill both of these objectives.
