Neograft® is a cutting-edge new technology that allows
a skilled plastic surgeon to harvest a patient’s own hair, follicle
by individual follicle (“follicular unit extraction”), and
graft it into places where hair loss and thinning have occurred. It’s
the new gold standard in hair replacement, and it’s available at
Smith Plastic Surgery. Keep reading for answers to some of the questions
we hear the most.
Q. Is Neograft Just For Men?
Both men and women can, and do, benefit from this new procedure. All that is required is that you have sufficient hair on the back of your head for your micrografts.
Q. Will My New Hair Fall Out From Pattern Baldness Like My Old Hair Did?
No. The “new” hair is harvested from the back of your head—an area that is not affected by the hormonal changes tied to pattern baldness. Your new hair is permanent. Untreated areas of your scalp in the pattern baldness area may continue to thin, so you may have to have additional Neograft procedures if that happens. While nothing can give you back the volume of hair you had in your teens and 20s, Neograft can make a dramatic difference in filling out your hair and alleviating bald spots.
Q. How Is Neogtaft Different From An Old-Fashioned Strip Transplant?
Unlike “old school” hair transplants, Neograft is non-invasive, with no cutting or stitching necessary. “Donor” hairs are removed and relocated one by one, rather than working from a large strip of scalp as previously done. This method led to extensive, and obvious, scarring. There is no scarring with Neograft—it’s undetectable.
Q. How Long Does Neograft Take?
The time needed for each procedure is dependent on the size of the treatment area and the skill of your practitioner.
Q. What Is the Recovery Time After A Neograft Procedure?
Because Neograft does not require cuts or stitches, recovery time is swift. Following your procedure, you can immediately return to the day-to-day routine of your work and personal life. Rather than having a large wound on your head that will take weeks to heal, you will have tiny, pinprick-size holes that will heal within a day or two. Discomfort is minimal to none.
Q. Will I Have To Wear My Hair Long To Cover the "Harvest" Area or to Make My New Hair Blend in?
This was a limitation of the old strip method—patients had to wear their hair longer to cover their linear scar. Because the hair is removed and replaced follicle by follicle with Neograft, the harvest area will look the same as the hair around it. The same is true for the transplanted hair—no one will know it’s a transplant unless you tell them. Feel free to wear your hair as short as you please!
Q. Am I A Candidate For Neograft?
Please contact our office at (702) 838-2455 for a personal consultation. The determination will be made based on the degree of your particular hair loss or thinning, and your general health.
